The 8th Annual Del Close Awards will take place at iOWest on Thursday, September 4th at 8pm, a refreshing, yet equally sweltering, date.
Starting today you can go here to nominate your favorite improv and sketch shows, teachers, coaches and posters, and once again the iO West instructors will select candidates for Student of the Year. Finalists will be announced the weekend of August 16th.
Best Harold Team ought to be interesting since the only house team to survive the Haropocalypse is ineligible to win. We’ve added “Best of the Back” as a category to put a spotlight* on DCT & Loft shows. And as usual there will be plenty of laughs and surprises the night of the ceremony, copious amounts of booze, and an after-party with DJ Conroy turning down for what.
Click here to submit your nominees and get your fancy clothes pressed for the big party on September 4th!
* Don’t stand directly under the spotlight. The Phantom of the Loft is known for throwing it at people.
Watch as Rebecca Stevens and Michael McCusker announce the nominees for the 2013 Del Close Awards, then click here to cast your ballot. Winners will be announced live at the 2013 Del Close Awards ceremony on Tuesday, August 20th at 8pm at iOWest in Hollywood, CA. Be there!

It’s that time a year again! As timeless as a Valley power outage and as monumental as a meter-less parking spot in Hollywood, the 7th annual Del Close Awards ceremony will be held at 8pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
You can nominate your favorite shows, teachers and coaches HERE starting today. Finalists will be announced the weekend of August 11th.
We’re looking forward to surprises this year because some legendary favorites are retired from winning:
- Best Harold Team is now named after three-peaters King Ten, taking them out of the running.
- Best Improvised Non-Harold Show is now named after three time winners Dasariski AND Quartet, opening that category up to whatever new show Craig is doing)
In addition, we’ll be picking our favorites for the Top Story! Weekly Best Scripted Show, Best New Show and “That Other Show” (those that could use some TLC, or at least En Vogue). Once again we’ll recognize Best Poster, and your favorite teachers and coaches will fight to the death*. Last but not least our esteemed instructors will pick a Student of the Year.
As usual there will be additional surprise awards announced during the ceremony, after which we’ll all get drunk and dance our tails off. What better way to spend a Tuesday?
Click here to submit your nominees. As copper and wool are 7th anniversary gifts, get your penny loafers shined and your sheep fluffed for the gala celebration on August 20th!
* Not really, unless Cackowski pulls some Red Wedding shit.
